In order to live up to my full mental, physical and spiritual potential and enjoy all the pleasure life offers, I need a body that functions and performs at optimum health. So one would think that choosing to be healthy, strong and flexible would be an easy decision. Yet, as practical and sensible as it sounds, usually, healthy living requires the determination that comes from one’s desperate search for relief from pain, sickness, or disease. Before modern industrialization, eating good tasting food was the appropriate thing to doit was unadulterated and pesticide free. At that time we could easily determine the good food from the bad simply by tasting it. Foods such as sweet fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, vegetables and herbs are still good for us. Today many health problems arise as we are naturally drawn to foods that look, smell and taste good when they’re really unhealthy for us. Knowing full well that it’s harmful, we crave comforting junk food anyway. Even when we are sick and suffering we continue eating the things we ate as a youth, rather than what’s healthy and healing @_@ 

Getting through that taste preference barrier, particularly when hungry, requires voluntary effort. Since the sense organs do not have a mind of their own, they cannot think for themselves. Eyes see the objects in front of them. They search for beauty, safety and the things that satisfy our needs. Ears hear all the sounds within their range. We like harmonious sounds that make us feel happy and become alarmed with those that cause discord or reflect suffering. The skin informs our brain of what’s touching it and if it’s comfortable. The tongue tastes everything.It used to be that good tasting food was good for us. These days our tongue cannot be relied upon to keep us accurately informed as to the proper foods to eat. Sickness often occurs because artificial foods can taste so great, healthy decisions seem difficult to make.

The difference between the brain and our mind can be compared to knowledge and wisdom. Some knowledgeable people are not very wise and some very wise people have little academic training. Getting my mind-(me), my body-(myself), and (-I-)spirit to agree—can take an instant of cognition or a lifetime of struggle. Without a genuine need and good leadership, we may find it difficult to generate the motivation necessary to make significant changes in our lifestyles. However, with a little voluntary effort and planning ahead, I can improve my health and control my destiny. By my Free Will—I can choose to practice truth, honesty, and integrity with my wholeself. Rewarding myself with a body that feels really good and functions exceptionally well. By practicing self-help-health today and tomorrow, anybody can become self-empowered, self-reliant and self-sufficient. It’s a win-win-win situation for you, me and my wholy-self  -__- 

Unless we can maintain control over our “senseless” desires they will keep us on the path of needless suffering.
